Facilities
Kahurangi Outpost
is an accommodation lodge for up to 28
people in a remote corner of Kahurangi National Park, New
Zealand. It is at Mangarakau, Golden Bay, at the top and west of
the South Island of New Zealand. The building was once
Mangarakau Primary School from 1948 to 1997. The tennis court
and small swimming pool are still in use.
To the original
classroom (now a lounge) has been added 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom
contains one double bed and some singles, usually as bunks.
The smallest bedroom sleeps a maximum of 5, the largest 9.
The native forest is spectacular, the birdlife prolific, the
bird song a symphony especially at dawn and dusk. Behind and
above the site are impressive limestone bluffs and the view from
the front is over the Mangarakau wetlands which is now a
reserve.
There are many things you could choose to do while here.
